Outreach to Community– Care Visits to
Sub-divided Flat Residents

2020

Hong Kong

Project Description:

In response to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Institute quickly appealed to members and set up the COVID-19 Volunteer Group to offer immediate assistance to groups in need.

Under the strike of COVID-19 pandemic, less-privileged families were particularly hit with difficulties in terms of finance and resources.  The HKIA COVID-19 Volunteer Group promptly appealed for facial masks and cash donations from business sector and fellow members.  Timely, we arranged caring bags with facial mask, sanitary items and food/supermarket coupons for donations to the less-privileged families in collaboration with different NGOs in Sai Ying Pun in May 2020 and Tsuen Wan in June 2020.  The Volunteer Group divided into small groups and visited families living at sub-divided flats and handed the caring packs to them, to show the care from the architectural profession.  Besides, Volunteer Group assisted more than 100 needy families to apply for electricity bill subsidy from CLP.

Description how the project contributes with humanity:

Architect commits to make Hong Kong a better place for all.  To attain our mission, we rely on a team of dedicated members who took lead to align NGOs and business sector to gather the resources, and transmit our care to the needy communities.  Handing out the caring packs through an in-person visit was a direct way for the needy communities to receive support and encouragement.  This was also an opportunity for fellow members to have first-hand experiences on the living environment of some of the families of Hong Kong, and to be inspired to build a healthy city for all. Besides, through assisting the needy families to apply for the electricity bill subsidy, we advocate the needs of taking care the less resourceful communities and to encourage more enterprises to offer similar support in times of difficulties.
